The Benson Reflex is a remarkabkle litle trick kite. It is smaller,
by about 2", than the Box Of Tricks, but has a significantly different
character. Many small trick kites are wild and erratic, but the Reflex
is a stable but highly radical kite. It has little oversteer (like the
BoT), but responds very quickly to user input, and is incredibly agile
about any axis. It will recover from almost any position with ease. Most
impressive for me is the feel of the kite, despite it's quick reactions,
it is still smooth and steady in forward flight, even in strong winds (up
to about 15mph), and it has the feel of a much larger kite, solid kite.
It slides superbly, better then the BoT in my opinion, and also excels
at groundwork. It is even happy flying in low winds - 3-4mph are more than
adequate to get it going.
I delayed buying a Reflex for a long time, thinking it would be too
similar to the BoT. I was wrong and I wish I'd had one in my kite bag for
longer. I suspect that I may now fly the Reflex even more than my BoT.
It comes in an icarex version too (as do all Tim Benson's kites), but I've
not had opportunity to try one yet. |
