Our Motto: To Promote Safe Kite Flying

Since the early 70's, TKF has been promoting the fun of safe kiting in the southern Ontario region. Some of our members have been involved in the grass roots of kiting as it has developed throughout North America in the past 30 years.

TKFers are kiting enthusiasts, ranging in age (5 to 82) and levels of experience (novice to master). They come not only from the Greater Toronto Area, but also from other parts of Canada, and other parts of the world as well. Our members are always learning new skills and are happy to pass their knowledge on to other kiting enthusiasts.

TKFers are involved in a wide range of activities: doing demonstrations at kite festivals and other public events, kite competitions -- flying and design, kiting history, single line kites, stunt kites, traction kiting (power kites & buggies), kite fighting (rokkakus & Indian fighter kites), kite and banner making workshops, designing custom kites for sale or merely personal pleasure, high altitude flying, and even ice flying.

TKF is known around the world as one of the key Kite Making Clubs. Many TKF'ers pride themselves in their homemade creations, and have displayed them at international demonstration events. We have represented Canadian interests in various major worldwide festivals in such places as China, Columbia, Hong Kong, France, Japan, India, UK, Germany and New Zealand.

TKF has run many festivals in and around the Toronto region including the Four Winds Kite Festival held each May at the Kortright Center for Conservation, and the International KiteFest held each September at Milliken Park. TKF is also involved in various public events, charity benefits, celebrations and memorial services. Media productions such as Kite Crazy have been created with the participation of TKF and its members.

TKF has also aligned itself with regional kite clubs in Ottawa, Kitchener, Port Colborne, Buffalo and Windsor, as well as clubs in British Columbia, Quebec and the Northern United States. After taking part in a large number of festivals locally and throughout the world, TKF has put the Toronto area on the international map of kiting !!

TKF'ers are friendly ! ! A meal at a local restaurant after an event can be a great excuse to get together and socialize ! ! A chili bakeoff / raffle party is often held in the fall as a way to wind the summer season down, before the ice flying season begins !
