Our third event was part of a national event for the BBC's annual Children in Need appeal, in association with Kite Flyers For Charity. We joined with kite clubs all over the UK for an evening of night flying on Friday 16 November 2001.

To enable us to see what we were doing we had a bank of flood lights that provided a wall of light that made the kites visible to a height of just over 100' which looked impressive. We also made some self contained light units that we fitted to some of our trick kites . These looked particularly good especially when seen from some distance away.

The evening started well with a force 3 north easterly wind, which is a good direction for us, but it wasn't long before the wind shifted to notherly and gained in strength up to a strong force 5. This meant that it got bitter cold and the wind was too strong for any thing other than buggying.

For those who haven't tried buggying at night with the aid of cycle lights to see some of where you are going we would recommend that you try it. It gives a whole new perspective on things and as one of our members was heard saying "its the best fun I've had with my clothes on in a long while!"

And given that the purpose of the evening was to raise money for a very worthwhile cause we raised £40 on the evening, not bad for an hour of enjoying ourselves in less than ideal conditions. A big thank you to all who contributed.
