Another Hargrave to be displayed in Museum
Some time ago I received an email from Seymour Goldberg, a retired Industrial Art teacher who does voluntary work at the Cradle of Aviation Museum, in Nassau County, New York, asking for information about Hargraves kites. I sent back some information to Sy and suggested more sources.
I recently had another email from Sy, with a request for my address and I then received the following letter.

Dear Peter:
I have enclosed 2 prints from my latest batch of Hargrave construction pictures. The first is a picture of the structure before we covered it. The second, with me in it. is the kite covered We are almost finished with the kite We still have to make the loops at the bottom for flying the kite. This is for the museum and will be hanging from the ceiling It looks simple but it was complicated especially since our instructions were in German.
Hanging
above my head is last project my team worked on If is a full scale
replica of the Langley Airdrome #5
Thanks for your help with the kite
Sy
P.S The picture an my tee shirts was the first plane we worked on We restored - the Brunner-Winkler Bird.
This
Hargrave is an authentic, exact replica. Sys group starts
shortly on a full scale replica of one of Codys man-lifting
kites. The exhibit of kites will probably be on display by December,
and will form part of the permanent display at the museum.
It is unlikely that either of these kites will ever fly. Given the skill and dedication put into them I think this is a pity, but I also hope that it will be a spur to some members of our club to think about doing something like this as well.
In Issue 204, (December 1997) I wrote about Lenneke Cayley, a fourth year Aerospace student at RMIT, who flew her Hargrave Replica at the November fly.
Are there any AKA members out there interested in building a full size Hargrave? If so, phone Peter on 03 9486 1981 to talk about a possible joint project.
